Chilton Quality Plants is an independent wholesale nursery set in about 13 acres of Suffolk countryside, producing hardy nursery stock. The business was established in 1991 as a partnership; following David Martin's retirement in 2003 it is now run solely by Mark Mason. Both had many years' horticultural experience before taking over the nursery. We aim to serve garden centres, nurseries, landscapers, garden designers and market traders. We hope to give a friendly, experienced and courteous service to all our customers, regardless of size. :: We grow shrubs, climbers, clematis and herbaceous perennials Most of our plants are in 2, 2.5, 3 litre or 3 litre deep pots, depending on species. All our climbing plants and clematis are potted in 3 litre deep containers, with a single 90cm bamboo cane topped with a cane cap. We also stock a few larger plants - please ask for details. > Compost All the stock is grown in a compost containing long life fertiliser and vine weevil deterrent. Most of our compost has 15% bark content, thus reducing the quantity of peat used. > Chemical use This is kept to a minimum as we try to employ good husbandry. Plants are well spaced and a lot of watering is carried out by hand. In autumn and winter, plants are cleaned up, dead leaves are removed and climbers are tied, ready for spring.
